Global Financial Outlook 2009

In light of the financial turmoil and given the interest from our alumni, we held a panel discussion featuring Wharton Alumni and other experts in their field who discussed their views on the economy and their particular industries for 2009.

Moderated by our fellow Ivy League graduate Michael Alexander (Columbia University), the guest speakers were:

  •  James Breech (WG’ 83, President and CEO and CIO, Cougar Investments LP)
  •  Alister Campbell (WG’92, CEO and Chief Agent, Zurich Canada)
  • Ted Nash (WG’ 91, former MD and Head Mergers and Acquisitions, CIBC World Markets)
  • David Prince (President, Harbinger Capital Markets)

The speakers discussed the insurance industry and its hardships amidst the economic downturn, the liquidity crunch and the collapse in private equity, inflation going forward and even indices such as the Bloomberg World Iron Index correlated with the economic cycle.

This sold out-event was graciously hosted by a Wharton parent, Gary Singh (Vice President, Canaccord Capital Corporation). We would like to thank both Gary and Canaccord Capital for sponsoring this event. The evening was very well received by our Alumni and we are hoping to have a follow up panel discussion in early 2010, so look out for this event!
