Total Leadership

Professor Stewart Friedman, Practice Professor of Management at the Wharton School of Business, engaged our Alumni in a leadership discussion based on his New-York Times best seller book, Total Leadership. This event was co-hosted by the Penn-Wharton Alumni Club of Toronto and MedCan, who served as the sponsor. This event also served as an Appreciation Day for MedCan clients.

Professor Friedman, discussed the importance of being a “complete” leader in all domains of life – your work, your home, your community and your private self. Instead of focusing on a zero sum game, one should find mutual value amongst these four areas. He divided the participants into small groups to give people the opportunity to discuss their current balance and encouraged everyone to think how to strike a proper balance to become a better leader. He reminded the participants that the ultimate goal as a leader is to:

  • BE REAL: Act with authenticity by clarifying what’s important
  • BE WHOLE: Act with integrity by respecting the whole person
  • BE INNOVATIVE: Act with creativity by experimenting to find new solutions
