Paras Bhargava (WG'91)

President - Wharton

Paras is the President of the Wharton side of the club.

Currently Paras consults to institutional investors and manages family investments. Paras worked for 10 years as an equity analyst in Canada for BMO Capital Markets and Yorkton Securities, he was top ranked for much of that period. Paras has also founded a technology start-up and held senior management positions at Nortel. He speaks French, English, Spanish and Hindi. In addition to earning an MBA at Wharton Paras holds an engineering degree from the U of Toronto.

Giselle De Grandis (C'06)

President – Penn

Giselle is the President of the Penn side of the club.

Giselle graduated in 2006 with a BA from the College of Arts and Sciences. At Penn, Giselle was involved with the Kite and Key Society and the West Philadelphia Tutoring Project. She also worked as an editorial assistant at the Penn Press and as a research assistant at the School of Medicine while a student. After graduation, she lived in the Netherlands for several years, completing a master's degree in public policy and working for the Netherlands Scientific Council for Government Policy. Currently Giselle is a senior business advisor with the Ontario government in a role related to energy and environmental policy and programs. Giselle is a Penn Alumni Interviewer through the Secondary School Committee.

Kim Yeung (WG'12)

Director of Wharton MBA Relations

As Director of Wharton MBA Relations, Kim acts as a touch-point between incoming Wharton MBA candidates as well as recent graduates and the alumni community in Toronto. Kim completed her MBA at Wharton in 2012 and is currently at Kensington Capital Partners, an investment firm in Toronto where she's focused on growth and venture investing. 

Robert Mellema (WG'08)

Treasurer - Wharton

Rob is the Treasurer of the Penn Wharton Alumni Club of Toronto. Rob completed his MBA at Wharton in 2008 where he was a Co-Prime Minister of the Canada Club, and joined CPP Investment Board soon after graduating. Prior to business school, Rob worked at UBS in investment banking for 4 years in London and Toronto on the Hotels, Gaming & Leisure sector team and on Canadian M&A. Rob also worked at the Boston Consulting Group in Toronto, and has a Bachelor of Commerce degree from Queen’s University. Rob lives in downtown Toronto with his wife Lisa and is an avid golfer and distance runner.

Derek Smith (C'97)

Director of IUCT Relations

As our IUCT Relations Director, Derek expands our ties to alumni from the other schools in the International University Clubs in Toronto. Derek founded Canadians at Penn, the university-wide undergraduate club, in 1995. He received his BA in 1997, then came home for law and graduate school. He has been a Bay Street lawyer for over a decade, and currently is senior counsel for TD Asset Management.

Paula Kulpa (PennDesign'08)

Director at Large

Paula graduated from Penn's School of Design in 2008 with a Master of Science in Historic Preservation. Paula has worked for the Ontario Ministry of Tourism, Culture and Sport since 2009 where she has taken on progressively senior roles dealing with heritage conservation, not-for-profit arts organizations, cultural industries, public libraries and government agencies. Most recently she worked in the Deputy Minister's Office where she provided support to senior executive and political level decision makers on the entire culture portfolio. Paula holds of Bachelor of Arts, Honours from Queen's University ('04), where she was a member of the Varsity Women's Rowing Team. An active member of our Board since 2011, she also volunteers with the Penn Alumni Interview Program. 

Christian Kellett (WG'09)

Director at Large 

Christian graduated with an MBA and MA from the Wharton School and the Lauder Institute in 2009. While there, he was the captain of the men’s crew team and a co-president of Out4Biz. Prior to Wharton, Christian spent seven years as an officer in the U.S. Navy, serving on ships in Japan and then in Belgium as a NATO exchange officer. His undergraduate degree is from the University of Rochester. He is currently the General Manager of Decoustics, a manufacturer of custom acoustical wall and ceilings that is part of Saint-Gobain S.A. of France. Christian is an avid cyclist. He and his partner live in the West End of Toronto.

Lesia Mokrycke (C'11, GLA'17, GFA'17)

Director of Communications 

Lesia is the club's Director of Communications. Lesia joined the board in 2011 after completing a joint BFA from Penn and Pafa in Fine Art, Art History and English Literature. Lesia's multidisciplinary art practice includes both large scale public projects as well as more intimate studio works. Lesia has completed large scale, site-specific projects in the United States and Canada and is the recipient of several awards. Lesia is also an avid traveller and distance runner. These days Lesia is back on Penn's campus studying for a Master of Landscape Architecture and a Master of Fine Arts, due 2017.

Rekha Sampath (WG'02)

Director of Membership

Rekha is the Director of Membership for the Penn Wharton Alumni Club of Toronto. Rekha completed her MBA at Wharton in 2002, and has since worked at Morgan Stanley Equity Research, Deloitte Research, and State Street, Sun Life and Broadridge Financial in strategy. She is currently Vice President of Strategy and Business Development at Broadridge Financial, where she heads strategy for their international investor communications division and serves on the Board of Directors of their joint venture with the Tokyo Stock Exchange. Prior to Wharton, Rekha worked at IBM and Goldman Sachs. Rekha lives in North Toronto with her husband, Manish, and their two daughters.

Steve Hucal (WG'79)

President Emeritus – Wharton

Steve holds an MBA from Wharton. He received a Bachelor of Science in Accounting with Honors from Syracuse University and is also a CPA and Inventor (3 Patents).

Prior to assuming the Co-President - Wharton role in the Fall of 2009, he served as Treasurer of the Penn-Wharton Toronto Club.

Steve is the currently Chairman, President and CEO of Paymentflex Technologies, LLC. Past roles include founding Chairman, President and CEO at Genesis Analytics, founding President and CEO of TD MarketSite at TD Bank Financial Group, Executive Vice President at Hudson's Bay Company (including Chairman of Nor-Don Collection Network Inc. and President of Heritage General Insurance Company), Senior Vice President and Director of Credit Card Services at KeyCorp and Head of Credit Policy at Sears, Roebuck and Co. in the United States.

Andrea Loayza (SEAS'08)

President Emeritus - Penn 

Andrea is a Penn '08 graduate, with a major in Chemical Engineering and minor in Economics. While at Penn, Andrea was actively involved with the American Institute of Chemical Engineers (AIChE), Alpha Phi Omega community service fraternity and Cipactli Latino Honor Society. As an alumna, Andrea served as the President of the Penn-Wharton Alumni Club of Toronto, and as a member of the Planning Committee for the Class of 2008 5th Year Reunion. Andrea is an alumni interviewer for prospective Penn students. 

Jody Samuels-Silver (W'79)

President Emeritus – Penn

Jody graduated from Wharton with a major in finance. She founded PACT, Penn Alumni Club of Toronto back in 1989 and has served as President on and off for many years. Jody’s professional career started on Wall Street as a currency trader. Five years ago she founded, a Forex Education company, to help traders save time and effort, make more money and achieve their full potential as Forex traders.

Ted Nash (WG'91, G'91)

Development Director - Wharton

Ted joined the board in 2009. He has worked at the CIBC group since 1994 in a variety of capacities, including leading its M&A advisory practice and, currently, running Corporate Development and Merchant Banking. He has worked in Toronto, London, Boston, Caracas, and Brussels as either a banker or management consultant. Before Penn, he graduated from Queen’s University with a B. Comm. in 1985 and qualified as a CMA in 1988.
